Curriculum and off-Campus Orientation at Philippine Normal University Visayas

January 14, 2019 i will have an orientation and campus tour at Philippine Normal University Visayas. i will do practicum there, The Philippine Normal University Visayas is located in Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. the PNU in Cadiz City came into existence with the enactment of RA 4242, which was approved on June 9. 1968. this act provided for the establishment of regional branches of PNU. uppon its approval, the late Congressman Armando C. Gustilo immediately worked out the establishment of the branch in the Visayan region. with the help of former Mayor Heracleo Villacin, the PNC Negros Occidental Branch in Cadiz City was opened on July 22, 1968.

From Bachelor of Elemetary Education and Bachelor of Secondary Education, its program offerings expanded to include master's degrees and more recently, doctorate. for a few years, it also offered engineering corses in consortium with Techological University of the Philippines-Visayas.
Arriving at PNUV i'm welcomed by the teachers and all students in here, they are very kindly, even the students here always smiled at me.
How lucky i am, i got an opportunity to attending the Seminar "Pagsasarili Preschool Program" guided by Dr. Preciosa S. Soliven as CEO, Operation Brotherhood Montessori Center, inc and Ambassador of UNESCO.

Montessori center started among the poor in 1964 when Operation Brotherhood International (OBI) then headed by Oscar Arellano, assisted in the relocation of 3000 squatter families from Intramuros, Manila to Sapang Palay, Bulacan, Arellano invited Dr. Preciosa S. Soliven, who was then a preschool teacher in Makati and had experienced teaching in Saigon to join OBI in their efforts to provide free education for the children while their parents were engaged in livelinghod training.

It was not long when Dr. Soliven was granted by the Italian embassy with two Montessori training scholarship for preschool (1964 - Perugia, Italy) and grade school (1969- Bergamo, Italy). this was followed by several grants to observe professional high schools in Italy, France, Germany, England, Denmark, Australia and USA.

Having understood how the full potential of a nation can be unearthed by the Montessori system, Dr. Soliven opened the first O.B Montessori Children's House at the Syquia Apartments in Malate, Manila in 1966. the first grade school level opened in 1970 in Paco, Manila and later moved to Taft Avenue.

Twenty years after she started the first O.B. Montessori school, then Foreign Affairs Secretary Salvador Laurel appointed Dr. Preciosa S. Soliven to represent the Philippines at the UNESCO in Paris, France where she was elected as member of the executive Board. By 1993, the UNESCO conferred the International Literacy Award on the O.B. Montessori Pagsasarili Twin Projects (Pagsasarili and Mothercraft Training & Literacy Course Village Mothers). Dr. Soliven commitment to UNESCO lasted 25 years.

When Dr. Soliven became Secretary General of UNESCO Philippines in 2000, she carried on with the task of spreading the Montessori system all over the country.
this is a valuable experience for me, and i was able to have pictures with the ambassador UNESCO.

After attending the Seminar, i have tour campus and have class observation in grade 6 for the first time. the students very smart and active. they are very kindly and happy with my arrival.
